Uh-Oh...

Those who know me know that I have a paralyzing fear of being reprimanded. I’ve always been the one to say “I don’t think we should do this, ” but sometimes even I don’t see the line. It all started innocently enough—just a few doodles in the corner of the labels on the sandwich boxes. Working at the Spa, making sandwich after sandwich, can get pretty tedious. All I wanted to do was add a little pizazz to the product. But this soon turned into a lot of pizazz. I started drawing pictures underneath the labels so that when the customer opened the box—bam!—a picture of Darth Turkey.
But you can’t do that for everything. Who wants to see a picture of an adorable pig on a ham sandwich? So I started to decorate those boxes like advertisements.  One of my favorites was “HAM! Featuring Lettuce and the Tomato Gang.” And, of course, the EPIC egg salad sandwich. It got pretty popular with my coworkers, and everyone knew that I was the girl who drew on the boxes. But yesterday the dooming text arrived—My boss had seen the roast beef, and was MAD. And I was terrified. I was pretty sure she was going to kill me. But one very apologetic note and a day of worrying later, all was forgiven. And thus ended an era of excellently crafted sandwich boxes.
This taught me a very valuable lesson, but I’m not quite sure what it was. I’d like to say that it should be “don’t waste time at work,” but what I was doing was far more productive than what others were doing. And I honestly wanted to brighten people’s days a little—we could all use that sometimes. So I guess this just means that I need to start focusing these creative urges into my comic strip, rather than work.

P.S. For all of you wondering what Darth Turkey looks like:

  1. I loved what you did to those sandwich boxes and im sad it didn't turn out well.. I'm sure many costumers agree with me! However, you got a great point! you can use all that creativity in something that doesn't require a boss or supervisor, this case your own comic strip. So good luck with that! :)
